An international group of plaintiffs (including South African participants) is suing Meta, claiming that its encryption is a “sham”. They are accusing WhatsApp of storing and analysing private communications and that Meta employees can access user chats through a relatively simple internal request system. If true, this has huge consequences for us: around 93% to 96% of South African internet users use WhatsApp.
How much do you trust your “encrypted” chats?
Totally, it’s the safest way to talk
I’m skeptical, but have no other choice
Not at all - someone is always watching
I’ve already started moving over to other apps
