The Business Maverick gadget blog is off to the races

The first gadget to land on the Business Maverick reviews desk is something near to my heart - the Mario Kart World Nintendo Switch 2 bundle. Will Father’s Day be spent blue shelling my children as I keep my record of playing every Mario Kart game unbroken? Yes, yes it will.

Is there a better way to spend Father’s Day? No, no there isn’t :joy:

you’re sending that to me when you’re done, right? RIGHT?

I am a Switch one fanatic so hit me up if you want some thoughts about why the Switch is the best designed console in history.

I read a fabulous novel called “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow” (thanks for the rec @Emilie) about two 90s game designers. Highly recommend if you read fiction and want your Nintendo/gaming world to collide with your paperback world

there’s a genre of youtube videos about how 90’s game designers solved problems with the limited options they had in the day and it is some of the most interesting stuff in the world.

I am of the opinion that creativity is born out of constraints but that’s a conversation for another day.

Ah such a fantastic book Sarah! In the same genre, I also recommend The Future by Naomi Alderman

I’ve got it covered  one sidenote: if you love Mario Kart - the feather is back.

who knew we had all these gamers at DM? Not a gamer myself, but love sitting on the couch, watching and chirping from the side.

I see a gaming vertical in our future!

I decided that for my birthday i am allowed to make bad financial decisions and nabbed myself one on a Vodacom contract since i recently took out a new phone contract as well. I don’t even have any killer app reasons to want one but here we are.

First thoughts while still configuring:

  • My goodness is this thing beautiful and humongous. I know it is as yet untainted by the inevitable ravages of dust and use, but it looks gorgeous and is really big - perhaps uncomfortably so?
  • Nintendo’s onboarding journeys are always so cute
  • Screen is beautiful - i was grumpy about it launching without an OLED display but screen is lovely, crisp and bright.
  • Slight annoyance at it not accepting my existing microSD card so I will have to see how far the onboard storage gets me after installing Mario Kart World.

Knowing myself i will inevitably default to playing the same indies as before (Slay the Spire, Silksong) but no concerns about that right now - also curious to see if there are improvements in 3D intensive games (besides the paid upgrades which i won’t do on principle).

Few things as exciting as new console days and it is becoming rarer and rarer with the way this hobby’s pricing is going.
