The NPA says it has recovered billions of rand Where has this money gone?
The national fiscus I would imagine?
That’s a good question and one worth asking of the NPA @Greg
One school of thought that has been put forward is that if the corruption was exposed through journalistic endeavour, a percentage of recovered funds should go towards a media sustainability fund.
The Zondo Commission cost a lot, but one could argue that it made a net profit due to the recovered funds.
As far as I remember, the money, such as the R1.1bn from McKinsey, went to the Criminal Asset Recovery Account. Then it was channelled into the government’s efforts to combat illegal mining. I wonder what our readers think of that (don’t forget Stilfontein).
Hi @bothamike223_gmail.c , this is such an interesting question. @Ferial has done some digging.
