Tjommie ripple relay switches in Gqeberha

Those of us who are law-abiding citizens in Gqeberha and have agreed to have a Tjommie ripple relay for remote control of our geysers are being conned. After no electricity this morning (cold showers all round), I have queried the load strangling schedule. I am told that from now until the end of August, we will be “load shedded” by remote control:

Weekdays 6am to 8am and 5pm to 8pm

Saturdays 9am to 12 noon and 5pm to 7pm

Sundays 5pm to 9pm.

Since most wise people are halving their electricity bills by keeping the geyser off all day except for 6-7am to get a hot shower, this means we are facing a winter of cold showers.

Hi Charlotte,

Welcome to DM Connect. I am interested in hearing more if you’re keen?

We’ve been looking for readers who have had Tjommie installed to hear about the experience. Yours does not sound good at all.

I’d love to know more - like when Tjommie was installed in your home and how/when the municipality informed you about the load strangling.

If you’re keen to chat please pop me an email - angela@dailymaverick.co.za

Looking forward to hearing more.

Angela
