The Artemis II crew just broke a 56-year-old record, becoming the farthest humans have ever been from Earth. As they swing around the dark side of the Moon, our home planet will appear no bigger than a basketball. Does space exploration still give you goosebumps, or do you feel our focus (and billions of dollars) should remain firmly on fixing Earth first?

Should returning to the Moon be a priority for humanity?

  • :rocket: Absolutely, it’s vital for our future
  • :globe_showing_europe_africa: No, let’s focus on Earth’s problems

For all the things us risen apes can do, stretching our imaginations and ingenuity to the cosmos is the most productive. No, we shouldn’t be thinking of being a multi planetary species. But there are important lessons to be learnt in engineering for space travel and survival that can breed more innovation on earth. We must choose to go back to the moon because it is hard.

The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) has played a key role in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA’s) Artemis II mission :crescent_moon::globe_showing_asia_australia::dizzy:

I wish I could get excited about this, but I just can’t. Spending gazillions of Dollars on this gadabout and the war in Iran while there is a planetary crisis here on earth - I don’t get it! I feel nauseated when I hear the astronauts speaking about our “fragile” and “beautiful” planet - well then let’s do something to fix what we have broken. That’s the priority actually in my opinion.
