The DA’s Emma Powell has resigned, Liam Jacobs is the new councillor for the PA in the City of Johannesburg after Kenny Kunene’s resignation and the President removed Dr Nobuhle Nkabane from the role of Minister and Higher Education and Training… all within two weeks. What does this mean for the GNU? @SuneP @SiyabongaGoni @ansothom @Editrix
Resigning from the DA worked out well for Jacobs, hey @SuneP ?
Definitely! From a student leader to an MP to now a councillor. He’s one to watch for sure.
We did a profile of him ahead of the 2024 elections as part of a new group of MPs.
I’m not a fan of what the PA stands for, but I do find it heartening that there are young leaders of quality emerging in our political structures. As a fellow former Kimberliet, I wish Liam well.
That’s been an issue for the longest time: how do parties bring young people into leadership positions while giving them the training they need ie at governance levels.
Do parties actually give training?
some parties do- with youth memberships and internal training program. Outside of political spheres, programs like Future Elect (run by the amazing Lindiwe Mazibuko) do great work in training young leaders.
