I’m curious to know how many CID areas there are in Cape Town? The fact that residents in a community willingly enter in to paying more property rates to ensure services are provided suggests that the Council are doing a sub standard job. To then add a city wide cleaning fee as the Mayors “initiative” is called to our invoices, adds insult to injury. There has been no attempt by the Council at a time and motion study/audit in to the over employment, under achieving, unprofessional and empty office spaces (most work from home) which suggests an arrogance they have no right to believe is their right. Thoughts?
Residents of Monteseel are now without water because Eskom allegedly disconnected power to the pump station due to non-payment by eThekwini. Let that sink in for a moment.
Under South African law, access to sufficient water is a constitutional right. Residents should not be left without basic water supply because of failures between government entities and utilities.
Yes, emergency tankers are appreciated. Yes, we understand local volunteers and associations are trying to help. But this situation should never have been allowed to happen in the first place.
Water is not a luxury. It is not optional infrastructure. It is an essential service tied to health, dignity, sanitation, children, the elderly, and vulnerable residents.
The Constitution and the Water Services Act place a duty on municipalities to ensure access to basic water services, including emergency alternatives where systems fail. Temporary JoJo tanks and roaming tankers are crisis management — not a long-term solution.
Residents have every right to be angry and to demand accountability from eThekwini and all parties involved. Asking people not to “vent frustrations” while families sit without water because somebody failed to pay an electricity account is frankly unacceptable.
We deserve functioning infrastructure, responsible governance, and transparency — not endless apologies after preventable failures.
IT’S ALREADY BEEN 48 HOURS WITH NO WATER… and we are told we might have to wait another WEEK???
