Are broken streetlights shrinking your world? Let’s talk about safety in the dark

Vandalism, cable theft, and a lack of municipal urgency are leaving entire communities swallowed by darkness, creating immediate hotspots for criminals. From spikes placed on unlit roads to businesses losing thousands in stolen wiring, the lack of lighting is effectively shrinking people’s worlds and hitting women’s independence and safety the hardest.

We want to know:

  • How has the lack of functional streetlights altered your evening routines or your sense of safety?
  • Are you noticing a rise in criminal activity or close calls on your own dark streets?
  • If you’ve reported broken lights to City Power or your local ward councillor, what kind of response (or lack thereof) did you receive?
