The latest stats from insurers show a massive surge in critical illness and income protection claims. South Africans are surviving cancer, strokes, and severe burnouts, but their bank accounts are taking a massive beating.
The data reveal a brutal reality: many of us are financially prepared for death, but completely exposed if we survive a medical crisis and can’t work.
Have these rising living costs forced you to re-evaluate your medical aid or gap cover? If you or a loved one had to take extended time off for a health crisis, how did you manage the financial ripple effect?
What can I say. In our 80’s all sorts of “things” happen to a person. PMB,s ,despite being a strain, Gap Covers added up your medical costs become essential, if you can manage them, are good. For the rest, which need medication and Doctors Charges and hospital costs, it soon eats up your medical costs. However one is lucky if you have managed thus far. I feel sad for those who Are not prepared. At least we have many great State hospitals. Good to see the sckelms who have stolen from them may be beggining to get their punishments. Gill
