Domestic workers are legally entitled to compensation for workplace injuries and diseases (COIDA), but this promise only works if employers take action. From April 1 to June 30, 2026, we are in the critical window to submit annual declarations.
How to comply: Before 30 June
If you employ a domestic worker, two separate registrations are legally required. Both
matter, and take only a few minutes.
1. Register with the Compensation Fund (COIDA)
Start here: ROE Online portal
Create a user account, complete employer registration, and submit your annual Return of
Earnings (ROE) — a declaration of what your domestic worker earned over the past year.
The 2025 ROE submission window closes on 30 June 2026. Submission is required by
law, and penalties may apply if you do not comply.
If you prefer email, download the CF-1E form (Government Gazette No. 44250, Notice
106 of 2021) from labour.gov.za. Submit it with copies of your ID and your worker’s ID,
proof of address, and her employment contract to RegistrationCF@labour.gov.za.
2. Register with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)
Go to ufiling.labour.gov.za and register as a domestic employer. Contributions are 2% of
monthly earnings — 1% from you, 1% from your worker — declared and paid monthly
through the portal.
