I am displaying my ignorance here, but this is the first I’ve ever heard of drone music. What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about it?
The biggest misconception about music in general is that it has to be packaged in radio-friendly 3 minute bursts, be catchy and make you feel nice. This is an accidental side effect of how society has conceived of music ever since recording became possible and the modes of production shifted to exploit that shift to the fullest extent, and commercial interest dominated the motivations for these. So as this model rose to dominate, other forms of practice became forgotten or marginalised.
Drone is just a collective term for long form music that doesnt have abrupt changes or fast attacks.
