The ANC’s mid-term report was a sobering read. They acknowledged a long-standing decline since 2016, noting that voters are no longer “captive” but are “shopping around” for alternatives based on service delivery, stability, or protest. The party admits the structural, political, and moral weakening is real, and that they must show “irrefutable progress” quickly. But the 2026 local elections are looming. What specific, visible improvements in service delivery in our municipalities would convince you that the party is serious about change?
ANC has slipped so far that it’s recovery will mean over delivery to build the peoples confidence. Key issues 1) Filthy cities it controls no change or improvement 2) Broken infrastructure not looked at or repaired. 3) All Street lights are in a bad condition where there is poor maintenance incapable vendors and unprofessional fixing , Let alone broken poles as wire is stolen 4) Pavements broken and left to look like a construction site all over. 5) Dirt all over the show in the cities it controls. 6) Law enforcement non existent the smallest crimes must be policed for the bigger ones not to happen. 7) Many Metro police unfit physically to do their jobs, look at the no of motorist who break rules and sometimes in front of metro police , nothing gets done. 8) corruption is so blatant that the average person know the cost of goods yet municipalities approve tenders with exorbitant pricing.
I think there is so much one can write on this but doing your job properly in Public sector can go a long way. Also do the public sector employees know they are working for the citizens of the country and not their political parties. I guess it’s the latter so that’s our problem no 1. Who reviews peoples contracts and how is the score cards derived. Who checks that things are getting done and correctly. I think it’s none of the appropriate things we expect them to do.
The ANC will do nothing but make outrageous promises that they will not fulfil, what we need is a completely new party and the DA fits that goal, the fact that so much corruption has occurred within the ANC and Ramaphosa has done nothing but shift the guilty into other positions as if he is scared to discipline them in case they spill the beans on him.
When municipal employees demonstrate that they understand that their salaries reflect a clear mandate to perform identified roles such as maintain and develop infrastructure or conserve the environment to uplift society rather than simply bring home money (sometimes enhanced by bribes) to maintain and fatten themselves and their nearest kin. The social role of municipalities seems secondary to providing employment and rent-seeking opportunities. A change in attitude alone will start building a relationship of trust and confidence, but even this small ask seems to be a bridge too far
Too many factions, too little direction, no cohesive ideas. I doubt that the party will renew itself; but I fear that many will still vote for them.
