National Education and Training Council

The Minister of Education, Siviwe Gwarube, announced the members of the NETC at the end of August. This body is composed of various educational professionals – teachers, academics, and managers – and it is designed to advise the Minister on educational matters. Crucially, it is an independent body whose members, one trusts, do not come bearing fixed agendas.

The chair of the 15-member council is Penelope Vinjevold. Her name I know, and her selection is encouraging (although Sadtu has already expressed its dissatisfaction), but the other members of the council are, to an outsider like me, just names.

I tried to find reports on who these professionals are, but since August 29, there seems to have been next to nothing.

Could the DM please do a background check on who they are and what their contribution to our education system has been?

Many thanks!

Here are the members of the NETC: Khathutshelo Onica Dederen; Dr Xolani Khohliso; Zanele Mabaso; Madimetja Dina Mamashela; Professor Judith McKenzie; Professor Paulus Jacobus Mentz; Lebogang Stephen Montjane; Mmatsetsweu Ruby Motaung; Professor Nicolette Roberts; Maite Getrude Rammala; Marie-Louise Samuels; Dr Selvia Kista (Mona) Singh; Dr Glodean Qondile Tintswalo Thani and Dr Gabrielle Wills.
