Wow, @John_Stupart, hyperbole notwithstanding, Weekend Thing, 16 May 2026, this is indeed an apt description of Rebecca Davis’ contribution to exceptional journalism!
I do not mean to cast shade on any of the really great journalists of Daily Maverick. We would be in the dark (no pun intended), had @SharpSchutters not cast a spotlight on the truly staggering, but as yet unexplained source of, energy and water costs of planned data centres in this country.
I will do a disservice to the many staff writers of Daily Maverick if I were to try to list them. Please forgive me, all those who did not cross my mind in the few minutes of penning this comment. Zukiswa Pikoli regularly reminds us that cape-less superheroes work among us in this country. Governance shenanigans get the full treatment from Nonkululeko Njilo. Caryn Dolley investigates police investigations better than police investigators.
I could go on, but an itemised list was not my intention. I just wanted to express my gratitude. Despite the slew of weeks when only dirt is uncovered, not every week has to be THAT week. Sometimes we win. And that’s worth celebrating!
