Open Streets is coming to Joburg this Sunday. Beyond just a fun day out, could permanent car-free zones be the key to revitalising our city centers? Would you feel safer and more connected to your city if we moved away from car-centric urban planning?
If spaces in the CBD went car-free, how would you feel?

When applied to Cape Town CBD, my answer is none of the above, my exitement would be if it is linked to fees to enter the CBD to contribute to easing the severe traffic in and out of the CBD at peak hours. Cape Town traffic congestion has reached a critical point

I would certainly like to see Regent Street in Sea Point closed off to traffic. Only delivery and emergency vehicles should be allowed. Many cities in Europe close off streets in the city - often cobbled - and it creates a safe and enjoyable vibe.

Bree Street has been closed every Sunday and it seems like there is a lovely vibe. I agree, we should take inspiration from abroad and enjoy our city by foot.
