Hi everyone, I am the founder of โ€œStop Live Export South Africaโ€, a voluntary association dedicated to ending the cruel and unnecessary practice of live animal export by sea for slaughter.

Our government published draft Regulations for the Export of Live Animals by Sea on 11 July 2025, ๐š๐ข๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ฉ๐ž๐ญ๐ฎ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ก๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ž ๐ฉ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ž. The public has until 12pm on 25 August 2025 to submit comments.

South Africa exports thousands of live animals by sea each year, mainly cattle to Mauritius and sheep to the Middle East. Live animal export by sea is widely proven to cause unavoidable suffering, and no regulations can make it humane. We urge all South Africans to reject this attempt to regulate the trade, and instead ๐๐ž๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ ๐š ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž๐ญ๐ž ๐›๐š๐ง on this cruel and unnecessary practice.
