State regulation of religion?

Charismatic churches are in court to stop the Cultural, Religious and Linguistic (CRL) Rights Commission from regulating religion, arguing that this would “decimate freedom of religion”. CRL Commission argues that regulation is necessary to protect congregants from harmful practices, proposing a structure where religious groups would fall under “umbrella bodies” overseen by the state. What do you think? Is this vital protection against abuse or a threat to constitutional freedom?

Do you trust the state to regulate religious institutions fairly?
