#ThanksG20

Turns out, all it takes to get the city into gear is a visit from the world’s biggest economies, presidents, prime ministers and entourages rolling in for the G20 Summit, where global heavyweights gather to talk trade, growth and climate (and, apparently, inspire last-minute municipal miracles).

Join in and tell us all about the sudden transformations you’ve spotted around Joburg, or share your most sarcastic thank-you to the G20. Seen a road resurfaced overnight? A traffic light reborn? A pothole fixed? Water actually running? We’re all ears. Share your story, image or video using the tag #ThanksG20.

P.S. If you’re not yet on DMC (come on, join us!) you can send us your submissions here.

Well, Cape Town is sorted with fixing potholes and we do have running water- its quite a first world wonder! There is no last- minute dot com running around, maybe a bit but that’s ok. Who doesn’t make one’s home shine when we have visitors.

So, G20, we lay out our Table for you- overflowing with wine farms, citrus orchards, black olives groves aplenty, spiced with Malay boboetie diversity, coloured with breyani laughter and blacnhed with white roosterkoek rugby aficionados. Well run, naturally stunning.

The beautiful Mother City is not the Mother of dragon services or lack thereof, except of course, the draconian legacy of spatial separation, our underbelly of gang violence on the flats and homelessness that knocks on one’s car window and crime-traumatised subliminal social conscience.

But we don’t hide our drama, ne. Take a turn to Parliament to see the fire ravaged building and the hear on tellie of its Ad Hoc on the SAPS. The shenanigans will make your jaw drop, only to snap shut at the boom of the midday cannon. we invite you, G20’ers to see the richness: not only of the multi-hues earth from the Karoo to the hottentots Holland peaks but to the dolls on Camps Bay, but from revolutionaries of rights that ended up in Robben Island to the solutionaries that is who we are. We are tough. We make a plan. We pray. We laugh. We have grit. We deserve our hosting seat at this table that shapes the world’s economy.

And with that confidence of being at the African tip, we tip our hat with a wink and we raise a tippled glass to the discussions.
