South Africa will head into the Women’s Rugby World Cup brimming with confidence after their brilliant 41-24 win against Black Ferns XV. @KeananHemmonsbey @craigray @Yanga For those of us new to women’s rugby, what do we need to know about the team ahead of the world cup?

This is what rugby is getting right that other codes seem to struggle with. Improvements at junior and domestic level will (with patience) result in a stronger national team.

I am so proud of our women. I watched both tests at Athlone against the Black Ferns and was saddened by the lack of support, with one quarter of the stadium filled at R20 per ticket. The Paarl School Boy Derby had 20 000 spectators. Our women deserve more. They won the second test convincingly in a thrilling game and played their hearts out. When will we ever take women’s sport seriously?
