The UK is following South Africa’s lead by putting wildlife on their banknotes. If we had to update our ‘Big Five’ notes with five different South African icons — animals or people — who or what deserves a spot on our currency?
Baboon, Penguin, Whale, Porcupine, Caracal
Rassie.
Rassie Erasmus, Trevor Noah, Sunlight Dish, Mrs Balls, Boerewors.
Mandela forever! On back + leaping springbok; antbear; pangolin’; spekboom in flower; erythrina and its beautiful flower (coral tree); protea of course, fynbos, fever tree, acacia, umbrella tree!
Only animals… no human beings. As good as some people may be they will never match or beat nature.
Caracal, fish eagle, cape honey bee, riverine hare, cape clawless otter, spotted eagle owl
King Protea - national flower
Considering the rulers I’d suggest: rats, snakes, crocodiles, mosquitos and something slimy, eg slug
For National Pride: elephant, lion, kudu, buffalo, duiker
Let’s have mix of creatures: flowers, birds, land mammals, sea animals, insects:
Say Protea, vulture, wild dog, whale, dung beetle
Agree. Pangolin, vultures, honey bees, krill, succulents
