The UK is following South Africa’s lead by putting wildlife on their banknotes. If we had to update our ‘Big Five’ notes with five different South African icons — animals or people — who or what deserves a spot on our currency?

Mandela forever! On back + leaping springbok; antbear; pangolin’; spekboom in flower; erythrina and its beautiful flower (coral tree); protea of course, fynbos, fever tree, acacia, umbrella tree!

Only animals… no human beings. As good as some people may be they will never match or beat nature.

Considering the rulers I’d suggest: rats, snakes, crocodiles, mosquitos and something slimy, eg slug

For National Pride: elephant, lion, kudu, buffalo, duiker
