Will Ramaphosa stay or go?

President Ramaphosa has just hosted the world at the G20, but now he faces his critics at home. With the ANC National General Council (NGC) underway and rumours of a removal plot swirling, is it time for a new leader, or does South Africa need stability above all else? @Ferial sets the scene:

The NGC is taking place amidst speculation of a push by disgruntled factions (allegedly led by demoted ministers) to unseat Ramaphosa.
What is the best outcome for South Africa right now?

  • :shield: Stability: Ramaphosa must finish his term to protect the GNU and economy.
  • :counterclockwise_arrows_button: Renewal: The ANC needs fresh leadership to survive; he should go.
  • :person_shrugging: Indifferent: It doesn’t matter who leads the ANC; the issues are systemic.

By all accounts he will leave. I hope it is on his own terms in February. President Gwede Mantashe - time to start practising
