Anyone watching Alien Earth? What do you think? (No spoilers!)

Just starting this now and going by everyone I’ve spoken to it’s really good.

But one thing nags at me. Jason Pargin (aka David Wong, author of John Dies at the End and former Cracked writer) had a clip about how even the biggest budget streaming productions have pristine, spotless costumes which really undermine mise-en-scene. He even uses the original Alien as as example of how it should be done, with grimy, scuffed, lived-in costumes that sell its world, and now I’m struggling to look past it.

Has anyone else had any major opinions on the show (without giving too much away of course)?

One ep in and it is very, very good but holy hell is the pacing breathless. So much interesting and beautiful setup that could have benefited from some breathing room - they must be in a hurry to get to something else, so am curious to see what that is.

The creature features briefly in a not very great way and with a surprisingly phallic noggin.

And a… novel choice to have a Manowar soundalike over the credits.

Kinda sorta disliked ep2. Really just exists to push the plot along. Unnecessarily overedited, creature design very underwhelming and behaves contrary to established lore.
Tool closes this ep so there’s a pattern here.

Ep3 resets the scene quite a bit - finally a bit more sedate and philosophical. Not too much to say here except that the plot is starting to take shape. No xeno’s in this one.
