Gayton McKenzie pulling Gabrielle Goliath’s work from the Venice Biennale

Art is rarely just decoration; it’s a mirror to society. But what happens when the state tries to shatter that mirror? Following Minister Gayton McKenzie’s controversial cancellation of Gabrielle Goliath’s work for the Venice Biennale, we want to know your perspective:
How do you view the Minister’s decision?

  • :prohibited: State-sponsored censorship
  • :balance_scale: Valid ministerial discretion
  • :person_shrugging: A bit of both
  • :face_without_mouth: I’m not sure

I would say it is not really any of these, just a wild, unthinking, random decision by someone who should never have been minister of anything. He has not an iota of understanding of or interest in either Arts or Culture, and his sports interest is limited to the Boks and the Proteas. He is an insult to the citizens of this country, especially those, like me, who really value Arts and Culture and recognise the immense contribution both make to our society. His fascist response to Goliath’s work is symptomatic of someone entirely lacking in any of what used to be called ‘finer feelings’. Remember a previous holder of the post who threw her toys out of the cot after seeing some ‘lesbian’ photographs at an exhibition? The ministerial nonsense goes on. How about Kutlwano Masote as the next minister for SAC

While it is the product of the warped mind of a street smart USrael genocide denialist, the implicit endorsement by the cabinet makes the GNU collectively responsible. The man is not a leader, he is simply dancing to the Mossad fiddle.

Well said! I Totally agree with all you have brought up.
