Helderberg sewage infrastructure collapse

Plrase do an investigation into the sewage infrastructure collapse in the Helderberg atea at the same time that CoCT is pushing for high density over-development in the area. There are streams of raw sewage flowing into Strand Beach ocean and the Paardevlei link area. As well as the Lourens River.

Hi @Elize , thank you for your post. We published an article this morning that covers this topic, based on your suggestion.

A recent collapse on the Trappies Bulk Sewer near the Lourens River crossing caused sewage overflows. Repairs are under way:

In relation to your article. The sewage spills do not only happen during rainfall periods. It is currently happening with no rain. And the spills are not only happening now, we have not been able to swim safely in an unpolluted ocean for the past three years. We do not believe that the Trappies upgrade is going to solve the problem as problems orginate from much higher up in the Somerset West area of Geelsloot and across Paardevlei into the Lourens River. Despite this the City is surging ahead with more development in the Paardevlei area prior to additional upgrades. The Lourens river is, by the way, now completely damaged and destroyed in the Strand area.
