How to buy better?

At the end of the month, I will (hopefully, fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:) be moving into my own place. In the meantime, I have been filling my time by browsing pinterest and scrolling through online shopping sites (as one does). But I can already feel myself falling into a materialist trap of just wanting to buy all the pretty things… things that I don’t need, and certaintly don’t need to buy new. I am resolved to buy as much as possible second-hand to set up my new home. Does anyone have any tips and tricks to shopping more sustainably?

Facebook marketplace! Just don’t go to any dodgy meetups.

Give it until the next time you have to move. Believe me, you will hate all the junk you have accumulated! Apart from that, it is true that real happiness comes from things.

I love the Hotel Hope shop in Melville! They have some great furniture finds, reupholstered chairs and couches. Cabinets that you can go mad with chalk paint if that’s your thing. I think this is the link to their FB page

Wow, how cool. Does anyone know of a similar type of shop in CT?

Wait at least 30 days after you move into the new place. Your essentials before you move in - cleaning items, and bin bags, insecticide (i hate creepy crawlies), kitchen groceries. The rest you will figure out as you go along.

ps chalk paint is awesome - even when you don’t have toddlers around

I moved into a new house 7 months ago and am still buying stuff month by month as we learn the needs of the house. It’s actually quite fun to do it over time instead of what I imagine could be pretty stressful all at once.
