Today I am tired and angry. Another woman’s body has been discovered in Kempton Park, the fifth since July. Again, we want immediate action against gender-based violence.
Women in and around Kempton Park are urged not to walk or run alone, particularly in isolated areas. They should avoid secluded spaces, remain vigilant and, where possible, travel or exercise in groups.
But women have a right to enjoy public spaces and to exercise freely. And we can (and must) put pressure on our leaders to act, especially as we head into local government elections.
Beyond warnings and advisories, what visible actions do you expect from local leadership and policing? What is needed to better protect women and children in South Africa?
