Rea Vaya Phase 1C (a) - Rivonia-Katherine corridor

I just took Katherine from Bowling into Sandton and would just like to say What an Absolutely Moronic Shambles it is!!!

Usually one can rely on City Planners and City Engineers to, at least, try to alleviate traffic - especially into busy CBD’s; however, this is a new type of ineptitude!

They left Louis Botha as a crater for the past several years, a dedicated bridge that probably cost billions, standing for about as long as that - yet, in all that time, they couldn’t have done a proper survey of traffic in 2024-25!?

This is such a waste of space - the only people using the lanes are taxi’s and those who think they are better than everyone else!

So poorly designed and deployed - and yes, it will probably only last for a short while after the G20, but for now all commuters have to put up with this diabolical display of poor planning and ineptitude and add at least 20 minutes to your journey into Sandton!

@Ferial, do you have any insights on the city planning ahead of the G20?

@Sarah, so I have been following Phase 1(c) of the Rea Vaya for almost three years now. It is a decade late and billions of Rands overspent. It’s worth a full investigation. So, no, it’s not a G20 bling project but it is the final phase of the Rea Vaya. Let me get some answers from the Johannesburg Development Agency, the implementing agency.
