Stumbled on an interest fact I was not aware of in SA

Hi all, My name is Peter and I live in a few countries, alternating between Namibia, Germany Switzerland and SA.

I have subscribed to your DM news portal as I find that is very enlightening, up to date facts and often some interesting titbits to read.

Thus, I thought it appropriate to share this fact with you which I stumbled reading the ‘Welt Der Wunder Kompakt’ magazine this week in Germany, where they inform the reader’s that a tree standing in South Africa, Ohrigstad, close to the Echo Caves, holds the Guinness world record for holding the deepest deepest root structure of a 120m.

A wild fig tree nogal as well after reading more on the web as others could do. Might be interesting to know if there are more of those Wild fig size trees growing in that area sharing that stat.

Ciao

Peter

That’s such a great story tip, thanks @pmadelfang_gmail.com. Have we ever written something about this for OBP? @Editrix

Thanks @pmadelfang_gmail.com for sharing. It’s pretty interesting and I know just the right writer to pick up this story.

Thanks for this interesting information. Do they say how it was measured?

Hi Jill,
Pardon the delay in getting back to you but am travelling in Corsica. The article does not go into that detail but on checking with Guiness book of records it is actually listed there.
I do not really wish to partake in the general DM community talk for other reasons, but enjoy reading Daily Maverick articles.
Kind regards,
Peter
