Who really makes the decisions in the DA?

@Rebecca_Davis’s investigation into the DA revealed the party payed a Dubai-based consultancy over R7.7 million to manage its GNU operations. Further, she found that former strategist Ryan Coetzee was positioned at the heart of high-stakes coalition and budget negotiations, despite holding no elected office or formal public mandate.

While political parties often hire external advisors, using an outside PR firm to run core political operations raises key questions about political transparency, accountability, and voter trust.

Does knowing an un-elected external strategist played such a central role change how you view party leadership and accountability?

It is disappointing to find that much of the policy is directed by paid strategists, who were once an actual members of the party. If Ryan Coetzee, etc., are so interested in ensuring South Africa is governed correctly, why doesn’t he/they come back and join the DA again? Silly question, of course, there is not the same money involved. One had hoped that the current batch of leaders had enough intelligence, understanding of the issues involved and the passion required to do the job by themselves.
