Being a Bloubul in Slaapstad has taken a new turn

Among the great blessings from leaving Super Rugby and joining the URC/Champions Cup, festive derbies is the absolute best. It allows an opportunity for the diaspora fans to see their favourite teams play - like me, a loud and proud Bloubul. But, for my sins, some of my favourite people (including my son - not pictured, i’m not that old) are Stormers supporters.

While I have no problem with this and keep my banter clean and fun, I have had to suffer the indignity of not only buying my son the shirt of the enemy at full price, but now also need to download the Stormers app on my phone to redeem my tickets to watch my beloved Bulls play at Cape Town Stadium.

It’s basically a whitebox Ticketmaster app with a Stormers sticker on it - like putting lipstick on a pig. I assume that the season ticket shituation of last season forced an awkward negotiation between the predatory ticketing service and the Stormers faithful, but why must I now suffer the consequences?

If you do see me at the game on 3 Jan, please do come say hi.
