Hello all. The Springboks are preparing for their first match of the year, against the Barbarians. It’s not a Test and so far the full Barbarian squad has not been named. Seems they might be waiting on some late arrivals. The Boks though are all business. Attack coach Tony Brown says “we will treat it like a Test match.”

To add some intrigue…I bumped into an old face at the Bok hotel and had a long chat. None other than RWC 2023-winning coach Jacques Nienaber…That will surely get Irish tongues wagging.

Nienaber of course, is now a coach with newly-crowned URC Champions Leinster. Says he’s enjoying Ireland and has acquired a taste for Guinness. Good man.

Did you sneak in a “verraaier” into the chat - for us butt hurt Bulls fans? I know it was all Jake White and Johan Goosen turning the rugby clock back to 2007 that lost us the game, but it was decidedly anti-south african for Nienaber to prep such an effective defence plus the ultimate betrayal of deploying one of Pretoria’s favourite sons to such devastating effect.
