TLDR just like the prospect of stalking our exes was so seductive at the dawn of social media that we didn’t realise we were selling out the internet to 4 companies, we are rushing head-first into a disaster on so many levels because we are too thrilled at the thought of transcending our stupid limitations.
I do think a lot of lessons was learnt from the social media disruption. Which is why big publishers are all negotiating content sharing deals with the big AI companies. Unfortunately, you need leverage and the money to take it all the way to court if needs be to do that, which leaves small publishers out in the cold.
from where i’m sitting the lessons from the social media disruption have yet to be learned it seems - though i’m more talikng from a personal perspective than a publisher perspective.
